Mario Gutierrez, age 60, of Cave Junction, died Friday, February 4, 2011 at his sister’s home in Cave Junction.
A memorial service was held. Illinois Valley Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Mario was born December 2, 1950 in Grants Pass, Oregon. He lived in Glendale, Oregon before moving to Cave Junction in 1960 where he grew up and attended schools. Upon graduation in 1969 from Illinois Valley High School, he enlisted in the United States Army and served four years including time in Korea. Upon returning to Cave Junction he worked at Cabax and Rough & Ready mills. For two years he lived in Mt Shasta, California and then moved to the Oregon coast where he managed several motels in Lincoln City with his wife, Pat (Hess) whom he married April 13, 1985 and later divorced in 1997. Due to injuries, he stopped working in 2002.
Mario would help anyone who needed his help. His hobbies included elk and deer hunting and fishing, especially ocean fishing.
Survivors include his daughter, Michelle Varamillo of Riverside, California; his parents, Marie & George Raab of Grants Pass, Oregon and Augustine & Carol Gutierrez of Cave Junction, Oregon; three sisters, Amelia Maluk of Grants Pass,Oregon, Diana Moore of Lincoln City, Oregon, and Anna Gutierrez of Cave Junction, Oregon; three brothers, Ramon Ravera of Cave Junction, Oregon, Carlos Gutierrez of Selma, Oregon and Greg Gutierrez of Grants Pass, Oregon; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Gutierrez in 1956.
