Marilyn J. Hummell

Marilyn J. Hummell, age 77, of Grants Pass, died Sunday, August 28, 2011 at Royale Gardens Health & Rehabilitation Center.

Marilyn was born May 26, 1934 in Billings, Montana to Herman & Pearl Pfeil. In 1952 she entered the United States Air Force where she met her husband at Norton AFB after he returned from the Korean War. In 1954 they were married and moved to Iowa. She later lived in Reno, Nevada where she was a secretary at a Reno grade school and high school for 20 years. In 1992 she moved from LaPine to Grants Pass, Oregon.

Marilyn was a piano teacher, volunteered with the Girl Scouts; and was a block mother. She was a member of the Colonial Valley Women’s Club serving as past president and the Methodist Church where she sang in the choir.

She enjoyed flowers and music; loved her dogs; and most especially loved her family and friends.

Marilyn was a caring, generous and kind woman who never ceased to put the needs of others before her own. She knew no strangers, everyone became her friend. Her smile and laughter will be missed.

In addition to her husband, Arlo Hummell of Grants Pass, Oregon; she is survived by three children, Marcia Jean Olson of Reno, Nevada, Terri Cole of Kennewick, Washington; and Roy Hummell of Bellevue, Washington; a brother, Roger Pfeil of Roseville, California; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Harold Pfeil; and two sisters, Anita Bessie Gage and Vivian Pfeil.

A graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m. at Hawthorne Memorial Gardens. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to a favorite charity.
