Marian O. Smith

Marian O. Smith, age 73, of Grants Pass, died Sunday, December 2, 2007 at her home.

A visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., Friday, December 7, 2007 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Stake Center in the Relief Society room.

A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Stake Center on Williams Highway. Interment will be at 3:00 p.m. at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Marian Olive Coleman was born February 7, 1934 in Greenville, South Carolina to Elmer & Sarah (McCoy) Coleman. On February 11, 1952 in Greenwood, South Carolina she married Rowley Harrison Smith who died June 11, 1993. In July 1964 while the family was living in Greenville, she was sealed to her family in the Salt Lake City Temple. She lived in many states including South Carolina, Arizona, and Georgia before moving to Oregon. She lived in Salem for two years before moving to Grants Pass 19 years ago.

Since 1959 she was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was currently a member of the Murphy Creek Ward. She served as past Primary President and while living in North Carolina held primary in her home. She also volunteered as a Boy Scouts leader.

She was an avid reader until her eyesight failed and then enjoyed audio books. She loved playing board games with her son, Mark who she cared for in her home.

Survivors include four sons, James Rowley Smith II of Grants Pass, Richard Wayne Smith of Omaha, Nebraska, Mark Allen Smith of Grants Pass and Aaron Lee Smith of Mesa, Arizona; daughter, Leah Pauline Rich of Grants Pass; three sisters, Mary Stafford of Valliant, Oklahoma, and Erlene Parnell and Dorothy “Dot” Robinson both of Greenville, South Carolina; 21 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Michael David Smith who died February 18, 2005.
