Margie M. Tooley, age 93, of Grants Pass, died July 18, 2019 at her home. A loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.
Margie was born February 13, 1926 in Sandpoint, Idaho to William & Alfreda Rhoten. In 1944 in Reno, Nevada she married Elmer ‘Punch’ Tooley. She moved to Grants Pass 77 years ago from Yreka, California. She worked at Olies Restaurant until she had her first child. She was a homemaker for many years, until her youngest was a junior in high school. At that time, she started working at JC Penny’s and the Golden Rule in the yardage department. When Punch and Margie retired, they wintered in Yuma, Arizona. After buying a home in Yuma, they stayed until Punch died before her and Margie returned to Grants Pass to be near family.
Margie volunteered with Helping Hand in Yuma, Arizona.
Her hobbies included knitting, sewing, and playing cards.
Survivors include two daughters Anita Keefer of Ogden, Utah and Bonnie Barnell of Grants Pass, Oregon; 13 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Elmer D. Tooley; daughter Sharon M. Biles, mother Alfreda Tuck; father William Rhoten; sisters Rowena Rush and Agnes Mahaffy; granddaughter Andrea Keefer; and great-grandson Colton Lasker.
A viewing will be from 9:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m., July 24, 2019 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Savage Street Building Relief Society Room.
A funeral service will begin at 10:00 a.m., July 24, 2019 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Savage Street Building.
Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m., July 24, 2019 at Eagle Point National Cemetery.
