Mamie Janet Sease, age 92, passed peacefully Monday, May 19, 2008, at her caring home at Redwood Terrace.
She was born to William Buren and Annie Schofield in Brewster, Kansas, January 10, 1916.
Mamie attended School in Scappoose and St. Helens, Oregon. Mamie Buren and Walt Sease were married in Holton, Oregon, in 1943. Mamie came to Grants Pass from Holton (now St. Helens) in 1947, where she and her husband with other family members built and operated the Sportsman’s Caf in the Fruitdale District. She worked at the Golden Rule for 15 years and from time to time dug gladiola bulbs and picked hops. Upon retirement, Mamie volunteered for many years at the Senior Citizens Center, where she enjoyed socializing with many old and new friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Walter, her brother, Van Buren, and sisters, Wilmena Benson and Vada Martin.
She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Mamie was a charter member of Alpha Iota of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority. She also was a member of Grants Pass Eagles Auxiliary. She enjoyed many hobbies including stamp collecting and was a member of a local stamp club. She loved playing cards, especially pinochle, and reading, crafts, and gardening.
Mamie will be sorely missed by all who loved her. At her request, no funeral will be held. Final arrangements are being handled by Hull and Hull.
