Maggie O'Brien

Maggie O’Brien, age 87, of Grants Pass, died Monday, March 24, 2014 at Countryside Village.

A celebration of her life will be held at 12 noon, Saturday, April 5, 2014 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Stake Center, Grants Pass. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

She was born Margaret Kimber on March 8, 1927 in Syracuse, New York. She attended college in Oceanside, California while living there with her family after World War II. In 1948 in Baldwinsville, New York she married her high school sweetheart, George O’Brien. They lived most of their working life in Wayne, New Jersey where they raised their two children, Michael and Anne. She was a Girl Scout leader there for many years. She also worked as a quality control specialist for a bakery supplier in Totowa, New Jersey.

Maggie and George’s first retirement was to Cape Cod, Massachusetts for 14 years where they lived in the Cape Cod National Sea Shore, then 12 years in a retirement community in Brunswick, Maine. They traveled extensively in the United States making many cross-country journeys visiting friends, relatives and our wonderful National Parks. Many foreign countries were also visited on Elder Hostel trips.

They moved to Countryside Village last fall from Brunswick, Maine.

Maggie liked to cook and especially excelled in baking, but she loved to play Bridge and was a skilled player. She was an avid reader and volunteered at the Truro library on Cape Cod.

Survivors include her husband, George O’Brien of Grants Pass, Oregon and a daughter, Anne of Grants Pass, Oregon.

She was preceded in death by her son, Michael in 2009; four older brothers, James, George, Robert and Donald Kimber and her older sister, Myra Kimber.
