Madalyn was born April 23, 1923 in Los Angeles, California to Edward & Mildred (Shear) Murphy. In 1983, she and her husband Fred moved from Norwalk, California to Grants Pass where she was very active in the local arts community. For nearly three decades, Madalyn donated her watercolors, ceramics, and oil paintings to events such as Black, White and Blues to raise funds in support of many great causes. She volunteered and was an active member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church. Madalyn enjoyed writing and illustrating poetry, teaching watercolors and ceramics, and reading. She loved collecting seashells, moonlight trips on the river, visits to the beach and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a patient listener, understanding teacher, and wonderful mother and friend.
In addition to her husband of 65 years, Fred Knoll of Grants Pass, survivors include five children, Christine Zimmer of Grants Pass, Linda Murphy-Knoll of Houston, TX; Rick Knoll of Brentwood, CA; Patrick Knoll of Moraga, CA; and Gina Beyer of Salisbury, NC; her brother, Edward (Bud) T Murphy of San Mateo, CA; and 15 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. She loved and appreciated her Spring Village “family” and cherished the time she lived there.
She was preceded in death by her son Steven Phillip Knoll and her daughter, Mary Ann Knoll.
