Mabel “Boots” Johnston, age 87, of Grants Pass, died May 25, 2008 while in local adult foster care, lovingly provided by Alicia and Glenn Wach.
Boots was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was married Paul “Mate” Johnston for 58 years. He passed away in December of 1997. They retired and moved to Merlin from Oceanside, California in 1977.
Her hobbies included ceramics, playing pinochle, knitting, and camping. She was a past member of Emblem Club #444 in Grants Pass and Club Northwest, plus volunteering to assist with Meals for Seniors. She especially liked observing the wildlife around their home and had a great love of cats and dogs. Above all, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Mabel was preceded in death by her sister, Virginia; son, David; and her husband, Paul. Survivors include John and Virginia Herrle of California; Jeff Herrle of Alaska; Denise, Eric, and Thorin Bosserman of Washington State; and Anthony and Crystal Johnston of Maine.
Private interment will be at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Southern Oregon Cremation Services are in charge of arrangements.
