Lynne Lundgren Atteberry was born on a sunny Sunday, September 21, 1941 in Grants Pass, Oregon. She passed away on a sunny Sunday, January 13, 2008 at Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford, Oregon.
Lynne attended Grants Pass High School where she met her future husband, Ron Atteberry. She graduated with the class of 1960.
After marriage, Ron and Lynne embarked on a 26-year career with the United States Navy, which allowed them to travel all over the United States. During this time Ron and Lynne raised their daughter Dena. Lynne served six years as a Girl Scout Leader and four years as a Navy Ombudsman.
Returning to Grants Pass in 1988, Lynne found various outlets for her boundless enthusiasm and love for her community. She found her niche when she was elected to the Grants Pass City Council in 1995. She served the City of Grants Pass through 2001, working on various committees and devoting time and energy to several special projects. Throughout, she was particularly focused on mental health and issues affecting women and children.
Lynne and Ron moved to Cave Junction in 2005, where she was elected to the Cave Junction City Council in 2006. She served until illness forced her retirement in January of 2008.
Her community involvement during this time included active involvement and support for Women’s Crisis Support Team and Illinois Valley Safe House Alliance. She was a fervent supporter of Grants Pass Public Safety department, and a regular fixture of First Friday Art Night walk.
Lynne’s greatest joy in life was her family and extended family. She had hundreds of friends, all of whom remember her great energy and enthusiasm.
Lynne is survived by her husband of 43 years, Ron Atteberry of Cave Junction, her daughter Dena and grandchildren Lauren and Todd of Medford, and her sister Heather Flynn of Anchorage, Alaska. She was preceded in death by her mother, Grace Regester.
A celebration of life for Lynne is to be held at 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, February 9, 2008 at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors, 612 NW A Street. In lieu of flowers, Lynne’s family asks that donations be sent to LUPUS Foundation of America, Pacific Northwest Chapter, 1207 N. 200th Street, Suite 214, Shoreline, Washington 98133.
