Loyd Arthur Wiltermood

At the age of 92, Loyd Arthur Wiltermood left this world to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 29, 2015.

Loyd was born to Arthur & Blanche Wiltermood on July 17, 1923 in Kildare, Oklahoma. Shortly after Loyd’s birth, the Wiltermood family began their journey west which brought them to Murphy, Oregon in 1931.

During the late 1930’s, Loyd’s family moved to Grants Pass where he attended and graduated from Grants Pass High School. Within three weeks following his graduation, Loyd found himself enlisted in the United States Army and on his way to Fort Lewis, Washington. During Loyd’s time of dedicated service, he was a clerk’s assistant; transported prisoners across the Atlantic; fought at the Battle of the Bulge; and helped to liberate German concentration camps. When he had completed his European Service Tour, Loyd headed back to Oregon to propose to Peggy Lou Haney. She happily accepted and they were married on July 22, 1945 at the First Baptist Church of Grants Pass. Loyd and Peggy shared 68 years of marriage. Grants Pass was Loyd’s home and he was dedicated to keeping it a wonderful place to live. He was a local businessman and was the owner of Braden Motor Parts for 25 years.

The Fire and Public Safety Departments were touched with Loyd’s volunteer service for 40 years. Loyd volunteered for the Fire Department in Grants Pass and Waldport, Oregon and was a city councilman. His devotion to community continued through his selfless service as a Lifetime Member and Past Exalted Ruler of the Elks Lodge, Past Master of the Masonic Lodge, Lifetime member of Shrine , Captain of the Hillah Patrol , Scottish Rite and York Rite. The American Red Cross was also blessed with more than 25 gallons of blood as Loyd was a faithful donor into his 90’s.

As a member of First Christian Church, Loyd shared his singing talent and devotion to the Lord. He also enjoyed singing for the Community Singing Quartet for four years.

Survivors include his daughter, Karen Bramblett and husband Bill of Albany, Oregon; three sons, Craig Wiltermood and wife, Susan, Dale Wiltermood and wife Dawn and Terry Wiltermood and wife Vicki all of Grants Pass; 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death was his wife, Peggy Wiltermood and brothers, Carl Wiltermood Walter Wiltermood and Harold Wiltermood.

A memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, November 14, 2015 at the Masonic Lodge with Pastor Wes Winn officiating. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.
