Lois was born January 29, 1925 in St. George, Utah to Oliver & Ellen (Hall) Canfield. She married Jack L. Lathrop in 1943. Lois & Jack hauled freight throughout the San Joaquin Valley and the Los Angeles Basin. Lois worked with her best friend, Jody Bennett, for Mosrite Guitars Company for many years. They also worked together serving beer at the Mesa Marin Speedway in Bakersfield, California. After Jack’s death at 52, Lois sold maintenance agreements for Sears until her retirement at age 65. She was the top salesperson for Sears’s maintenance agreements in the U.S. Most importantly she was a homemaker. She moved from Bakersfield, California 3 years ago to be near her son and daughter-in-law, Sandra, who she considered a daughter.
Lois married Arle Lackey in 1996. They enjoyed shopping and playing pool. They frequented the Rasmussen’s Senior Center where they lunched, danced, and listened to the sounds of country western bands.
While living in Grants Pass, she attended Calvary Crossroads Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Arle Lackey of Bakersfield, California; a son, Jimmy Lathrop and his wife Sandra of Grants Pass, Oregon; a sister, Helen Cannon of Las Vegas, Nevada; one grandchild, Joseph Lathrop and great-grandchildren, Ian and Merrick Lathrop all from Bakersfield, California; and a niece, Saundra Parks of Grover Beach, California who she loved very dearly also as a daughter.
