Jean, as she preferred to be called, was born April 28, 1923 in Long Beach, California. Jean was the older of two children of Henry and Helen Oliver. Jean married Harold Westphall in 1939 which ended in divorce. While working for the United States Air Force she met and married Harold Brown. They were married 37 years. Following high school she attended Business College. Jean worked as a legal secretary, a buyer for the military-US Air Force hospitals; and was also in charge of scheduling & supplies for the Air Force’s elite “Thunderbirds Acrobatic Team.” Jean and her husband, Harold Brown owned Brown’s Upholstery in Grants Pass for several years before their retirement.
Jean was past president of Women’s Ministries at Parkway Christian Center, past president of Women’s Aglow Fellowship; and a volunteer at Royale Gardens Nursing Home. Jean spent her later years working on adoptive rights issues and speaking to woman’s groups calling it “a ministry to injured women.” Jean’s life story was featured in a documentary by the 700 Club.
Jeans interests include: reading her Bible, Christian Literature, word puzzles, and composing poetry.
Jean is survived by five children, Juanita Weis of Hesperia, California, Judith Johnson of El Reno, Oklahoma, Jack Westphall of Grants Pass, Oregon, Denise Stevens of Grants Pass, Oregon and Jon Regnaud of Rogue River, Oregon; a brother, Burton Oliver; five grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death was a grandchild, John New and her husband, Harold Brown.
A funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 9, 2012 at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors with Pastor Ron Marsh officiating. Interment will follow at Hawthorne Memorial Gardens
