Lillian June Hively

Lillian June Hively, age 84, of Merlin, OR, died of natural causes Monday, May 12, 2014 at Royale Gardens Health and Rehabilitation Center in Grants Pass, OR.

Lillian was born in Hawthorne, CA on June 23, 1929 to Floyd and Elray (Byler) Henney, the youngest of five children. She grew up in South Gate, CA, and attended South Gate High School.

She married her high school sweetheart, Carroll Hively, on Nov. 11, 1946 and they were married for 61 years until his death on Dec. 17, 2007.

They lived in South Gate, CA for many years, then for a short time in North Long Beach; they moved to Grants Pass, OR in 1989, and a few years later to Merlin, OR.

In Feb. 2011, she married Carroll's high school friend and their long time family friend, Keith Kummerfeld of Encinitas, CA, where they resided during their marriage. They divorced a year and a half later, but remained close friends until her death.

She was an avid painter and crossword puzzle enthusiast. She loved cats, especially calicos, Himalyans, and her big white Persian named Silver; and she had many during her lifetime. She loved other animals as well, and had many other pets over the years, including dogs, a horse, ponies, ducks, rabbits, turtles, guinea pigs, birds, fish, hamsters and lizards. She could never see an adorable creature needing a home and love, and not bring it home. She had a huge doll collection that a museum would envy.

She will be greatly missed by her family and close friends.

Survivors include two sons, John Hively of Yorba Linda, CA; and Robert Hively of Garden Valley, CA; two daughters, Deborah Hively of Gold Beach, OR; and Pamela Webb of Merlin, OR; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren.

Viewing will be held 9:30-10 a.m. on Friday, May 16, 2014, at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors at 612 NW 'A' Street in Grants Pass, OR. Services following at Hawthorne Memorial Gardens at 2500 Upper River Rd, Grants Pass, OR at 11 a.m.
