Liesel Sommer, age 82, of Grants Pass, died Thursday Sept. 22nd 2011 at home with family present due to complications from a stroke.
Liesel was born Oct. 17th, 1928 in Bremen, Germany. She married Rolf Sommer in Oldenburg, Germany on May 2, 1952 and later that year immigrated directly to Grants Pass. The majority of her life she lived in Grants Pass in a home built by her husband. She moved from Grants Pass in 1990 and settled in a scenic cabin on the Illinois River and lived there till 1997. Her husband built their 3rd home in Wilderville overlooking the Applegate River. The last 14 months she has lived at the Country Side Village in Grants Pass with her husband.
She is survived by her husband Rolf and her 4 children, Rudolf (wife Ann) Canby, OR, Harold, Redding, CA, Dolores (husband Harry) Lake Forest, CA, and Barbara, Roseburg, OR. She has 6 grandchildren: Kurtis, Luke, Rachel, Karl, Richard, & Kristen. She is preceded in death by her grandson Kevin. Local relatives include her brother-in-law & sister-in-law Gerold & Nancy Sommer.
Throughout her life she enjoyed raising her family, traveling, music & dancing and the great outdoors. She will be greatly missed and greatly remembered.
A Celebration of Life will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 26, 2011 at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors. Private interment will be at Wilderville Cemetery. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements .
