Lewis A. Ledbetter

Lewis died August 4, 2004 at his home, with his family close by his side.
Lewis was born in Chickasha, Oklahoma, October 18, 1912. He was born into a large family and worked hard on their farm until he was 18 years old and then ventured off to Holtville, California, where he met his beautiful wife to be, Frances Campbell. He won her heart with his good looks, his guitar and his country songs. They were wed in Yuma, Arizona on January 27, 1934. Soon after they moved to Chula Vista, California where they started their family. They lived several years in Longview, Washington and traveling through the Rogue River Valley, they fell in love with the area and made it their permanent home for over 30 years. They were married 70 years when Lewis died.
Lewis made a good living as a 'sign painter', and was know for his slogans, 'Ledbetter, Letters Better' and 'My Wife Does The Talking, I Make Signs'. After retiring he became quite an artist, which was his most enjoyable hobby. He loved to draw pictures and write peoms about his wife, family and friends, which were sent all across the country.
He attended the Christian Science Church in Grants Pass, and devoted much of his time studying the Word.
Lewis was survived by his wife, Frances, a son and daughter-in-law, Norman and Katie Ledbetter of Grants Pass, a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Richard Haynie of Grants Pass , 7 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Dad is greatly missed.

Frances I. Ledbetter

Frances passed away June 20, 2012 at the age of 94. She resided at the Autumn House in Grants Pass, Oregon. She was born November 09, 1917, in Holtville, California. She was from a fun loving family of eight children.
She was a pretty girl of sixteen, when a handsome fella with a guitar and good voice, strode into town and stole her heart. He proposed to her in the park, down on his knee and she could not resist! They were to soon get married. They moved to the San Diego area, where they started their family with a baby boy, named Norman and nine years later, a baby girl named Patsy.
Frances was a friendly, athletic woman and loved to play volleyball and exercise with her friends of many years. She loved Gospel music and there was a lot of singing in the family. They gave their children a loving, stable home, and lots of wonderful memories.
We miss you mom! Happy Birthday !
Frances is survived by her son, Norman Ledbetter and wife Katie, her daughter, Patricia Haynie and husband Richard, a sister, Jeanette Eberli of Holtville, California; 7 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.
