Lewis Clinton Chandler

Lewis Clinton Chandler, age 68, of Kerby, died Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at his home.

A memorial service will be held in San Jose, California.

Illinois Valley Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Lewis was born March 9, 1945 in Smithville, Texas to Henry & Etta Finley. In summer 2009 he moved from San Jose, California to Kerby, Oregon.

Though playful, he took seriously his role as ‘defender.’ He was focused in whatever he set out to accomplish – martial arts, handgun target competition (in which he excelled) and his latest love, golf. He often worked hard, lonely hours, but always did it ‘right.’ His frequent perusal of thrift stores yielded treasures he enjoyed reselling. He was resourceful, making what he had work. He was creative and designed unique jewelry. His cars always had personality. People were drawn to his good looks, fine manners and his desire to help. His children will never forget the time and energy he spent with them, daily teaching them, and on special occasions. His cooking was relished by all, especially the BBQ. Though comfortable in nature, he especially enjoyed ‘man-time-with several long-time friends. He soldiered bravely against cancer. His ‘golden’ smile will be missed by many.

He is survived by his loving and loved by wife, Donna Chandler of Kerby, Oregon; six children, Solomon Chandler, Abram Chandler, Josiah Chandler, Ishmael Chandler, Shiphrah Spencer, and Corinth Chandler all of San Jose, California; a brother, Andr Finley of Los Angeles, California; and seven sweet grandchildren, Kiyanna, Serena, Sean, Kaylin, Ava, Emily, and Elijah; and many others who appreciated his strong, giving spirt.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry & Etta Finley.
