Leslie Gail Johnson

Leslie Gail Johnson, a long-time resident of Cave Junction, died unexpectedly in her home on January 25, 2015 at the age of 63.

Leslie is survived by her loving husband, Lonnie; her children Danny (Denise) Johnson of Grants Pass, OR, Lori Alleman (Korey) of Prairieville, LA, and Levi Johnson of Cave Junction; grandchildren Makayla, Peyton, and Skyler Alleman of Louisiana, and Tessara, Allegra, and Katarina DePasquale of New York; her closest cousin who was more like a sister, Christine Hiebert of Grants Pass; and countless family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Volney Cummins (1973) and Beatrice “Ruby” Vanegas (Sept. 2014); her brother Patrick Cummins (1968); and her son, Lex Johnson (Aug. 2014).

Leslie was born November 28, 1951 in Ventura, CA. She was a 1969 graduate of Ventura High School. In her youth, she loved to camp and even worked as a timer in rodeos. She moved to Oregon in 1978 and married Lonnie in 1982. She volunteered at Evergreen School in Cave Junction and eventually started working in the office until she retired to take care of her mother in California. She spent over three years in Ventura with her mother, Ruby, until she passed away in September just three weeks after her son, Lex, passed away.

Leslie was a devoted wife and loving mother to more than just the children she gave birth to. She cared for hundreds of children while she worked at Evergreen School and loved them as she did her own. She was a confidant to many and was always there to share her love and strength with any who needed it. She was a peaceful, gentle soul who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 pm on February 7, 2015 at Illinois Valley High School in Cave Junction, Oregon.
