Leroy Anderson Barnes Jr.

LeRoy Anderson Barnes, Jr. 87, of Rogue River, died Monday, April 16, 2007 at Three Rivers Community Hospital.

Visitation will be from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. on Friday, April 20, 2007 at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors. A memorial service will be at 3:00 P.M. on Monday, April 23, 2007 at Eagle Point National Cemetery with Pastor Don Carlson officiating.

He was born on April 14, 1920 in Orange, New Jersey. In 1937, when he was 17 years old he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was discharged in 1941. On January 2, 1942 he re-enlisted to serve his country during World War II. He was discharged on January 25, 1946. Some special experiences for him were fishing with Admiral Byrd while transporting his team of sled dogs in Alaska. He also met the great-grandson of Fletcher Christianson in the Pitcairn Islands in the Caribbean. For almost 42 years he was married to his soul mate, Elizabeth, who survives. He worked in the grocery industry for 30 years at Von’s Grocery in California. He retired to beautiful Rogue River seventeen years ago.

He was a member of the U.F.C.W. for 50 years. He also participated in reunions with his shipmates from the U.S.S. Concord and the U.S.S. Tattnall APD-19.

He enjoyed golf, ocean fishing, and gardening. He loved his morning coffee at Aunt Betty’s, visiting with his friends and he loved being with his family. He will be deeply missed as a husband, father, grandfather, friend and mentor.

In addition to his wife, Elizabeth Barnes of Rogue River; survivors include his two daughters, Diane Kremsner of Auburn, Washington; and Pamela Inkrote of Grants Pass; his son, Robert Barnes of Simi Valley, California; his sister, Viola Cicetti of Massachusets; 11 grandchildren, Kristina, Erik, Reese, Alyssa, Rusty, Tanya, Josh, Wes, Jasen, Daniel and Steven; and one great-grandchild, Vega. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Valerie Hyde Barnes.
