Leota Katherine Love, age 75, Native of Grants Pass, died August 27, 2018 at her home.
Leota was born January 27, 1943 in Jerome Prairie to LeOtis & Katherine Stansfield and lived there until 1948 when the family moved to Fry Street in Grants Pass. She started 1st grade at Washington Elementary School then attended Grants Pass Jr. High and finished schooling at Grants Pass High School. Later in life she attended Rogue Community College for Elementary Education courses.
Leota was married to Lionel (Lee) Love in Reno, Nevada on April 1st, 1965. They made their home in Grants Pass.
Leota worked at several businesses in the Grants Pass and Medford areas over her life. The job that she enjoyed the most was being a teacher’s assistant at Allen Dale Elementary School, however her most cherished role was being a mother and grandmother.
Leota was an active member of the Grants Pass Inter-Tribal Pow Wow Committee and a member of the Yankton Sioux Tribe. She was also a member of the Grants Pass YMCA.
She loved collecting music of all genres. She also enjoyed writing and traveling to historic Native American Sites.
Survivors include a son, James Love of Grants Pass; a daughter, Gina (Love) Morton of Jacksonville; a granddaughter, Luciana Love of Grants Pass; two sisters, Nancy Putman and Elaine Jones; and life-long friend, Jewel Allen all of Grants Pass.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lionel (Lee) Love in 2011 and her parents.
A viewing will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Thursday, September 6, 2018 at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors.
A memorial service will be at 3:00 p.m., Friday, September 7, 2018 at Hull & Hull Chapel with Pastor Dennis Webber officiating. Private interment will be at Eagle Point National Cemetery.
