Leonard Ray Iverson, age 65, of Grants Pass, died October 31, 2023 at his home. Leonard was born January 30, 1958 in San Jose, California to Arliss Iverson and Doris Tibbets. Leonard and his mother moved to Grants Pass in 1968 when he was 10 years old.
Leonard worked for ECS Composites in Grants Pass for 43 years until he retired. His nickname was “Tiger” and his sister, Kathryn, called him “My Gentle Giant.” He had a heart of gold and loved everyone he met.
Leonard was the type of man to help anyone in need. In 1997, on a cold winter night, Leonard saw a grandmother, mother, and child stuck on the side of the road with a flat tire due to a rock slide on Hwy 199. He pulled over and stayed with them, to make sure they were safe, and helped them get their car out of the road until the tow truck arrived. They wrote him a card stating that his kindness left them with “hope for the human race” and they would never forget what he did for them.
Leonard had a deep love for animals, of which he had many. His sister-in-law found a baby cougar, that Leonard claimed as his own. He would see her daily to help care for her and spoiled her. He took her toys to play with and fed her steak. When she got too big, Wildlife Safari took her in.
Leonard was an avid gun collector, motorcyclist, and wonderful chef. Leonard and Kathryn would have cooking and baking contests and shared a very special bond.
Leonard was married to Gloria Benson-Iverson for 40 years. She is still a loved member of the family.
Leonard is preceded in death by his parents Arliss R. Iverson and Doris M. Tibbets; his sisters Karen T. Roberts and Sharen Rubinstein; and his brother Dennis Iverson.
Leonard is survived by his sister Kathryn J. Torres.
