Lawrence George “Dune” “Larry” Matusik, Jr, age 68, of Grants Pass, died Wednesday, September 22, 2010 in York, Pennsylvania.
He was born December 29, 1941 in Flint, Michigan to Lawrence Matusik & Ruby G. (Morris) Matusik. He graduated from Utley High School in Flint. After high school, he joined the United States Air Force and was with the 47th A&E Maintron Special Weapons Release & Gunnery Section in Sculthorpe, England. After his military service, he lived in Las Vegas, Nevada where he worked at the Nevada Test Site. In 1969 he moved to Grants Pass and was the owner of Larry’s Market in Hugo. Over the years he worked at various mills in the area as a Fork Lift Mechanic and in 2004 he retired from Hyster in Medford, Oregon.
His passion was cars and racing. He built and raced his own cars for many years. He enjoyed his yearly Air Force reunions, visiting with family, and camping with friends.
He was a member of the Eagles, Elks, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and American Legion.
He is survived by his partner, Brenda O’Neal of Grants Pass; three children, Nikki Malkowski and her husband Mike Malkowski of Howell, Michigan, Brandy Matusik of Grants Pass, Oregon and Lawrence Matusik III of Grants Pass, Oregon; two sisters, Barbara Bryan and her husband Butch of Springhill, Florida and Kathy Brelinski and her husband Gary of Grants Pass, Oregon; four brothers, Ted Matusik and wife Nina of Swartz Creek, Michigan; Mike Matusik and wife Susie of Flint, Michigan, Fred Matusik and wife Judi of Three Rivers, Michigan, Danny Matusik and wife Gail of Weeki Wachee, Florida; five grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors.
