Laurie Lynn Sanders, age 72, of Grants Pass, died March 1, 2019 at Highland House Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
Laurie was born August 1, 1946 in Lockport, New York to James & Marion Wheeler. At the age of ten she moved with her family to Grants Pass. She graduated from Grants Pass High School in 1964 and then attended nursing classes at Southern Oregon State College. She became a certified nursing assistant and worked in a hospital until she had her children. She lived in Portland for a time before returning to Grants Pass and worked at the Options bakery “New Hope Bakery.” On November 18, 1988 at the Josephine County Courthouse by Judge Allan Coone and Georgette Brown, she married Patrick W. Sanders, who cared for Laurie for the last seven years during her illness.
When she was younger, Laurie was baptized at the First Baptist Church and most recently attended Parkway Christian Center.
Laurie loved watching television, homemaking, painting, arts and crafts, cooking, and her cats Princess and Petunia.
Survivors include her husband Patrick W. Sanders of Grants Pass; daughter Angelique Stubblefield of Miami, Florida; son Stephen Witherspoon of Miami, Florida; sister Nancy Johnson of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; and three grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
