Laura Dunwald-Uhlig, age 99, of Grants Pass, August 18, 2023 she went home to be The Lord.
Laura was born February 11, 1924 in Lansing, Michigan to Louis Gentner and Lillian Pierce Gentner. She had one older sister, Katherine. She grew up in Michigan and Medford, Oregon where she graduated from Medford Senior High School. In 1947 she married Bud Lynch and they had a daughter Anna. In 1980 she married Lloyd Dunwald, the love of her life who also preceded her in death. In 2012 she married Harold Uhlig a friend from high school church camp.
Laura lived in various places throughout California. She held many jobs, her favorites were working with flower seeds, where she packaged and catalogued plant seeds, and working for the California School Board Association. She moved from Sacramento, California to Grants Pass.
Her hobbies included traveling with Lloyd in her later years; visiting family; genealogy and family history, and gardening. She volunteered as a substitute consultant with the Family Research Center at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grants Pass. Laura had a large part in finding a new floral species, Fritillaria Gentneri, which is named after her family. She could recite any flower by its botanical name.
Her memberships include the Escapees RV Club, Rascal where she helped senior citizens with computer related classes, St. Matthews Episcopal Church and St. Luke’s Episcopal Churches and Jackson Woodlands Association.
She is survived by her daughter Anna (John) Shackelton; and two grandchildren Karen and Jeff, and step daughter Vicki.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister; and her husbands.
A graveside service will be held at Jacksonville Cemetery at a later date.
