Larry Gene Brown was born on July 20th, 1931 in Long Beach, California to his parents, Ernest and Isabel (Groover) Brown. He graduated from Poly High School in June of 1949 and was a part of the Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) for three years during high school.
Larry started his career by leasing a Texaco Station on Pine and Pacific Coast Highway in Long Beach in 1950. He moved to Grants Pass in the late 1950s where he operated a Union Station at Hamilton Lane and Rogue River Highway, followed by a Shell Station at 6th Street and Manzanita Ave in the early 1960s. Later in the 1960s, he moved to Honolulu, Hawaii where he operated L & M Pauoa Union at Pauoa Road and Pacific Heights Road. Larry then moved to Blackfoot Idaho where he operated the Goodyear Center Tire and Oil. In 1970 he moved back to Grants Pass, Oregon where he bought Redwood Chevron Service at Annabelle Lane and Redwood Ave. He retired in 1975 after which he started traveling.
During his retirement, Larry would work winters in Arizona and summers in Yellowstone National Park where he operated Bridge Bay Tackle for Hamilton Stores from 1982 to 1993. During the winter of 1993, Larry managed Foothills Village RV Park located in Yuma, Arizona after which he managed BP Mini Mart and Gas in Cave Junction for Merv Colvin.
Larry had many interests throughout his life and enjoyed new adventures. In late 1949, Larry married Ruby Allsup; they later divorced after having three children together: Katheryn Jean Brown McDaniel, Sandra Ann Brown, Michael Wayne Brown. In September of 1964, he married Muriel Hopper Dukes who passed away on October 10th, 2009.
Larry Gene Brown passed away on May 11th, 2023 in Miles City, Montana.
A private graveside service will be held at the Missouri Flat Cemetery in Grants Pass, Oregon.
