Lani M. Campbell

December 17, 1957 — May 6, 2020

Lani Marie Campbell passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on May 6, 2020. She is survived and lovingly remembered by her mother, Kathleen; her husband, Jess; her siblings, Lori and Jon; her five children, Shannon, Matt, Amanda, Daniel, and Veronica; her six grandchildren (including one on the way); and, of course, her furry grandchildren. Lani was born and raised in Grants Pass, Oregon. She was a gifted artist with a vibrant smile and an open heart. She created beautiful paintings, drawings, and delicate Christmas ornaments throughout her life and gave her pieces away to those around her. She was also a masterful crocheter who learned from her mother how to craft complex patterns with yarn. Lani worked diligently to provide for her children so they could live full lives. She worked at several restaurants in the community, including the Riverside Inn, Steve’s Pizza, and Abby’s Pizza before pursuing higher education. After graduating from Rogue Community College with honors and an AAS in Criminal Justice in 2003, Lani worked as a Reserve Deputy Sheriff. She loved working in law enforcement, and continued that work with juveniles at the Josephine County Juvenile Shelter. More recently, Lani worked as an administrative assistant for law offices, and continued to give back to the city of Grants Pass through her work for the United Community Action Network (UCAN). People often looked to Lani for support because of her generous and tolerant spirit. She loved animals of all kinds, and often took them in. She did the same with people, who she helped without judgment. She loved to sing and dance to all kinds of music, but especially Neil Diamond. Lani met her husband, Jess, at the karaoke bar, and would frequently request that he sing at family gatherings because she loved his voice. Beaches were a strong passion of Lani’s. She would escape to the Oregon coast whenever possible. In 2018, Lani was able to fulfill her lifelong dream of visiting Hawaii, where she experienced gorgeous sunsets, mai tais, and warm ocean air. Lani’s family plan to travel and explore the many beaches of the world to honor her. The legacy of Lani’s life is her children and grandchildren, who are thriving. When Lani was with her family her joy was palpable. She would often sneak a kiss on the cheek when family photos were taken. A memorial service to remember and honor Lani will be held on June 17th, with a celebration of life to follow. Details will be sent to family and friends. Due to covid, it is a private event and for inquiries contact the family.
