Kenneth Harold Law, age 72, passed January 23, 2021 in Grants Pass, Oregon.
He was born in Parkston, South Dakota, in October of 1948 and moved to Grants Pass, Oregon, with his family, in 1956. He attended school at Murphy Elementary, Fleming Jr. High, and the old high school in Cave Junction.
From a farming family, Kenny was a hardworking farm and ranch hand, always helping family and friends when there was a need. He worked for Shirley Dughman at Shirley’s DbarL stables from 1989 to 2000. He then went to work on the landscape crew at Aspire, from where he retired only a few years ago. He was extremely outgoing and loved meeting people. A member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Kenny loved the Lord and spent time in prayer. He enjoyed many pastimes. Among them, mowing lawns for family and friends on his riding mower, driving his tractor, and visiting over a cup of coffee with friends at the store. He played softball in his younger years and looked forward every year to the horse races at Grants Pass Downs where he would study the horses and place his bets, often winning. He loved the annual white water hydroplane boat races along the Rogue River where, with great enthusiasm, he would cheer on family and friends who raced. He especially enjoyed a social gathering and, if there was music and dancing, he would dance and dance until every dance partner was too tired to keep up. By far, Kenny’s most favorite pastime was Grants Pass Caveman football and basketball. He attended every game he possibly could, both home and away. When the rooter bus to away games stopped running, he listened to them on the radio.
He was affectionately known by his nickname “Sled”. If you were blessed to have known him, he considered you a friend and you were probably given a nickname. He had a real knack for giving the best nicknames, straight from the heart.
Kenny lived with his mother Lillian, each taking care of the other, until his death. He touched so many lives with his kindness and will be dearly missed.
Ken is survived by his mother Lillian Law, sister Sharon Yadon, and brother Charles Law, all of Grants Pass. He is also survived by 12 beloved nephews and nieces, and numerous cousins in both Oregon and South Dakota. He was preceded in death by his father Harold Law, sister Carol Haydon, and nephew Bart Yadon.
