Kathy Marlene Mitchell

Kathy Marlene Mitchell passed away peacefully May 14th, 2018 with her family by her side. “Kat” as most people knew her was a master cook in the kitchen, an avid gardener and a journeyman meat cutter. She could skin a buck faster and more efficient than any man I’ve ever known. She believed in overcooking and would be the first to tell you if you left her home hungry that it would be your own damn fault. Kat loved cooking, entertaining and her favorite time of year was anytime she could have lots of people in her home sharing a cold beer with lots of laughter. She liked four letter words as much as she loved cooking and gardening and trust me, she LOVED to cook and garden.

Kat had a strong sense of family. Her kids and grandkids were the apples of her eye. She loved them more then I can even begin to express, there are no words. A strong sense of family may be the wrong words but, if you knew her and needed anything, she would always bring you into the fold and call you her family and she meant it.

Kat met and married her soul mate Allen Ray Cox. Together they lived a long, happy, adventurous and fiery life. If you knew them as a couple you would often have to argue who was more ornery. They both loved to laugh and tell jokes. Kat's jokes were always so funny and Allen never seemed to get them for the longest time and when he did finally get them, she had more fun laughing at him. Sorry Allen. Kat and Allen forged their two families together and made a home where they both taught all the kids life lessons, family values, love and oh, not to forget how to have a good time.

Kat always encouraged her friends and family to always try everything even if they were afraid. It didn’t matter, even if you fall— (she would say), ‘Suck It up! You’ll be fine, just remember “What if you fly?”.

Kat is preceded in death by her husband Allen Ray Cox, mother Marlene K. Mitchell, father J.D. Mitchell, brother Randy Harris, sister Rebecca Harris and many others she loved.

Kat is survived by too many people to mention, son Aaron Thomas, Portland OR, daughter McKenzie Mitchell, Grants Pass OR, brother Michael Mitchell, Portland OR, sister Carrie Still, Portland OR, brother Richard Wyatt, Maple Valley WA, grandchildren Stephan & Daniel Thomas, nephews Taylor Still, Jason Hoy, Michael Mitchell and niece Peyton Still, best friends Cezanne Wyatt-Ama, Medford OR, Dee Dee Fox, Grants Pass Oregon. If your name is not mentioned here, it’s okay. If she loved you, you know who you are.

Kat would like to let you know that her work here is done. She received a call, an offer, one she just couldn’t refuse. It’s an appointment of sorts from which she will not be returning. This assignment comes with a huge sign-on bonus, a reunion with family and friends that she has not seen in a long time. Job security is exactly 110 percent. Her new mission takes her to a wonderful place where she will be socializing, dancing, gardening, cooking and reading to her heart’s content. Music, laughter and love are guaranteed. Food is delicious, once she schools them on how to make it. Forever in our Hearts.

A graveside service to honor Kat will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 19, 2018 at Missouri Flat Cemetery.
