June G. Nelson, age 86, of Salem, died Monday, March 30, 2009 at Farmington Square in Salem.
A viewing will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon, Friday, April 3, 2009 at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors.
A graveside service will be at 3:00 p.m., Friday, April 3, 2009 at Hawthorne Memorial Gardens.
June was born June 1, 1922 in Princeton, Minnesota to John & Marian Burckhardt. She married Gilbert D. Gibson and after he died in 1957 she moved with her five children to Grants Pass. She worked at a Grants Pass hospital and a few nursing homes. During the 1960s & 1970s she owned Babyland, a children’s clothing and specialty shop. She also co-owned Cloverlawn Dairy with her second husband, P.K. Nelson who brought five children into their marital union. After retirement, P.K., June, and their youngest daughter moved to Bandon where she enjoyed fishing, watching the ocean surf and beach combing. After P.K. died, June returned to Grants Pass. In 2004 she moved to Farmington Square, an assisted living facility near her daughter in Salem.
June enjoyed family outings, picnics, camping and long walks in the woods; and spending time with her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her children, Bruce Felix, Janet Green, Crist Gibson, and Karen Burnett; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and an older sister, Joycelyn Hanson of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
In addition to her husbands, Gilbert D. Gibson and P.K. Nelson ; she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Judy Gibson and a son, Don Gibson.
