Former Grants Pass resident, Joshua Wade Kast, age 39, of Everett, Washington, died March 21, 2017.
Joshua was born February 19, 1978 in Grants Pass and was raised in Grants Pass attending Highland Elementary and North Middle School. After moving to Mountlake Terrace, Washington he graduated from Mountlake Terrace High School. From 1998 to 2001 he served in the United States Coast Guard where he was a cook on the USCGC Storis (now a retired vessel). After his time in the Coast Guard, he worked as a California Inspector Terminex in Stockton. He then attended the California Fire Academy in Roseville where he graduated from and then worked as a firefighter for eight years with CAL FIRE. After moving to Everett, Washington two years ago, he worked as a public works employee.
Joshua loved sports (watching on television and attending sporting events); music concerts; camping; hiking; swimming; 4-wheeling; Frisbee golf; and spending time with family and friends. He loved to cook, especially BBQ and skillet for family and friends. He also loved dogs and kids and was always “Uncle Josh” to all his friend’s children.
Survivors include his mother, Cynthia Kast of Grants Pass, Oregon; father and stepmother, David & Barbara Kast of Rescue, California; five siblings, Nicholas Garcia of Manteca, California, Sarah Kast, Mitchell Kast, and Zachary Kast all of Rescue, California and Patrick Talley of Port Angeles, Washington; grandfather, Gary Kalteich and wife Sharon of Las Vegas, Nevada; and grandmother, Dorothy Kast of San Jose, California.
A memorial service will be at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, March 26, 2017 at River Valley Community Church – Redwood Campus with Pastor Doug Higuera officiating.
