He was born John Leroy Devish to Edward and Vernice (Hudson) Devish on November 11, 1940 in Carter, South Dakota. As a teenager, he moved to Escondido, California; and began an apprenticeship as a plasterer and brick mason with his father-in-law. He continued his trade as partners with J&B Plastering in Escondido. After retiring in his 40s, he worked on big jobs as needed; but his real passion was playing golf every day. He played golf all over the United States and after moving to Grants Pass in 2003 he became a member of the Dutcher Creek Golf Course where he made lifetime friends.
Survivors include his two sons, Darrell Devish of Glendale, Oregon and Dusty Devish of Rogue River, Oregon; two brothers, Dale Devish and wife Lois of Sioux Falls South Dakota, Allan Devish and wife Linda of Winner, South Dakota; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. All of which he loved dearly. He is preceded in death by two sons, David and John Devish.
