John G. Paules, age 89, of Grants Pass, died Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at Rogue Regional Medical Center.
Family services will be held. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.
At John’s request, remembrances may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Red Cross.
John was born June 30, 1924 in Los Angeles, California. He graduated from Los Angeles High School and attended Stanford University briefly before enlisting in the United States Army in 1942. In 1947 he graduated from West Point and later taught Spanish there and served in many other military assignments around the world. He retired as Lieutenant Colonel from the Army at Fort Lewis, Washington in 1966. He worked for Boeing until 1970, then the State of Washington in Olympia until his retirement in 1986.
He received a M.A. degree from Pacific University in Tacoma, Washington in 1976 and then taught management courses for several years at Seattle City University and Pierce County Community College in Tacoma.
John and his wife, Jo Ann, were married in Abilene, Kansas in 1950. They lived in many parts of the world including Germany, Spain and Panama. They lived in Lakewood, Washington and moved to Grants Pass, Oregon in 1995. They recently celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary.
John is survived by his wife, Jo Ann Paules of Grants Pass, Oregon; four children, David Paules of Camano Island, Washington, Cristina Bryner of Olympia, Washington, Sarah Frye of Lakewood, Washington and Gregory Paules of Auburn, Washington; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
