John Bunyan Crawford

John Bunyan Crawford, 77 of Grants Pass, Oregon, passed away on March 16, 2025. He passed away in his home due to pancreatic cancer due to Agent Orange that he acquired while serving his country in Vietnam.

John Crawford was born on February 1, 1948, in Little Rock, Arkansas, to Roy Lawrence and Zeta Ina Crawford. John grew up with three brothers, Tarleton Perry, Timothy Lawrence, and Mark Bogard Crawford. He loved spending times playing baseball and served as the president of Youth Ministries of California. As John grew older, he went to college at Lexington Baptist College located in Lexington, Kentucky. There he sparked his passion for the ministry of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. After graduating college, he was drafted to go to Vietnam and fight for our country. He served our country proudly from December 10, 1968, to September 9, 1970. He was honorably discharged due to being hit by a bouncing betty.

John Bunyan returned to the Bay Area where he taught at Landmark Baptist Academy for 17 years. He served at the Missionary Baptist Church of Oakland, as a worship leader, Sunday School teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, as well as in the nursing home ministries.

During this time of teaching, John developed a love for Christian education and the desire to see each child come to know the Lord as their personal Savior. If anyone knew John Bunyan Crawford, they knew that he wholeheartedly loved serving God and witnessing to the truth of the gospel.

In 1989, John moved his family to Grants Pass, Oregon. This move was so that he and his family could be close to Jeanie’s parents, Helen and Andrew Denham.

John loved to teach and therefore was hired to teach at New Hope Christian School, principal of Woodlawn Christian School in Millington, Tennessee, and principal of Landmark Baptist School in Winchester, Kentucky. He served as the Sheriff’s Chaplain of Josephine County as well as the pastor of Bluegrass Baptist Church in Lexington, Kentucky.

John Bunyan Crawford is preceded in death by his parents Roy Lawrence and Zeta Ina Crawford as well as his son, James Ward Robertson Graves Crawford.

If anybody knew John Bunyan Crawford, the only thing we can go away with is, “What A Mighty God” he served.
