Joey Jones

Joseph Robert “Joey” Jones, age 14, of Grants Pass, died November 14, 2017.

Joey was born July 18, 2003 in Santa Rosa, California. In 2004 he moved from Sebastopol, California to Grants Pass where he grew up and attended Fruitdale Elementary and South Middle School. He was currently a freshman at Grants Pass High School. He enjoyed “helping” build his family’s first home in Grants Pass.

Joey attended Calvary Crossroads where he liked going to Children’s Church.

Joey loved reading. As a toddler, he looked forward to being read to and growing his vocabulary, and he became an excellent speller. As a little kid, Joey enjoyed watching Dora the Explorer and Little Einstein’s. He could remember teachings from everything he watched. As a family he really liked watching the Harry Potter movies and Sponge Bob Squarepants.

He was fun…and enjoyed swimming and the rope swing on the Applegate River, climbing trees, playing guitar, music, having his friends come over, camping, fishing, family outings and vacations; the zoo; longboarding; and skateboarding.

The most fun Joey had as a teenager was having his friends spend the night with him. Being raised as an only child, Joey expanded his family by having several friends spend the night…every night; they loved cooking pizzas and other yummy food throughout the night; went on adventures to the neighborhood store, rode their longboards and went on walks.

Survivors include his maternal grandparents, Chuck & Lori Skelton of Grants Pass; father, Randy Gray and his mother, Jana Jones both of Orange County, California; maternal grandfather, Ronny Jones and great-grandmother, Gloria Jones of Orange County, California; and maternal great-grandmother, Janis Brady of Fort Bragg, California. Paternal grandparents, Jerry & Sandy Gray all of Orange County, California; paternal grandmother, Catherine Gray of Huntington Beach, California; aunts and uncles, Kyle and Tiffany Jones and their children, Alyssa, Courtney, Natalie and Nicholas; Joshua Jones; Jeffrey Jones and his children, Justin, Janelle, Tanner and Caitlyn; Gary Jones and his children, Michelle and Bryan; David Kilgus and his child, Cory, and wife and children; Cynthia Kilgus and her child, Melissa, and her children, Mason and Maddox; Christian and Steven Maier; and multitude of friends.

Joey is preceded in death by his cousin, Katie Cubin.

A viewing will be from 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon, Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors.

A funeral service will begin at 12 Noon, Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at Hull & Hull Chapel. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
