Joe D. Furtado, age 78, of Rogue River, died Friday, January 2, 2009 at Rogue Valley Medical Center.
A viewing will be from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m., Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors.
A funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at Hull & Hull Chapel with Monsignor Gregory Moys officiating. Private interment will be at Eagle Point National Cemetery.
He was born August 17, 1930 in Los Banos, California to Joe & Rose Furtado. He spent his childhood working on his family’s dairy farm. With his family, he moved to San Jose, California where he graduated from Lincoln High School. During the Korean Conflict, he served in the United States Army in the 7th Infantry. On August 31, 1952 in San Jose he married Marlene Luchessi. Joe worked as an appliance repairman until his retirement in 1988. He moved from Campbell, California to Rogue River five years ago.
His hobbies included fishing, hunting, riding his lawnmower, and watching the San Jose Sharks and San Francisco 49ers.
In addition to his wife, Marlene Furtado of Rogue River; he is survived by three sons, Randy Furtado of Rogue River, Gary Furtado of Eugene, and John Furtado of Carmichael, California; two sisters, Mary Pasqual and Marge Young; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Rose Furtado and a sister, Lena Simmons.
