Joan Marie Hughes Amsler

Joan Marie Hughes Amsler, age 75, of Cave Junction, passed into the arms of The Father on Thursday, April 28, 2011 at her home after battling ovarian cancer.

A celebration of life will be at 3:30 p.m., Sunday, May 15, 2011 at Bridgeview Community Church in Cave Junction. Illinois Valley Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Joan was born April 5, 1936 in Auburn, California. She grew up in the San Francisco Bay area where she attended Lincoln High School. On August 21, 1954 she married Harry Amsler, who preceded her in death in 2006.

Joan is survived by a son and three daughters and their spouses; 12 grandchildren and their spouses; and nine great-grandchildren.

Joan was a member of the Illinois Valley Senior Center and would spend her time with the ladies there doing beading. Joan will always be remembered as The Butterfly Lady and had a large collection of butterfly treasures from all over the country. Joan used her amazing spirit and strong faith in the Lord to minister to others while she herself was battling cancer. Her beautiful spirit will always be remembered for the time after chemo she had her bald head painted with butterflies and flowers.
