Jimmie Lavousier “Jim” Varner, age 86, of Grants Pass, died Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at Three Rivers Medical Center.
Jim was born July 18, 1929 at home in Grants Pass to Hilda & Fred Varner. On October 20, 1947 he married Irinda V. “Wendi” Wilson. His first occupation was growing gladiola bulbs. In 1954 he started working for Southern Oregon Plywood where he worked until they closed.
He volunteered as an assistant Boy Scout Leader; PTA President for one year; Search & Rescue for 15 plus years and an Explorer Scout Adviser for seven years.
Jim was a member of Parkway Christian Center for 44 years.
Survivors include his wife, Irinda V. “Wendi” Varner; children, Susan A. Thompson of Grants Pass, Oregon, Thomas L. Varner of Columbus, South Carolina and Fred E. Varner of Eugene, Oregon; sisters, Helen Folger of Eugene, Oregon and Neva Henderson of Bass Lake, California; brothers, Joe Varner of Lincoln, California and Robert “Bob” Varner of Roseburg, Oregon; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Hilda & Fred Varner.
A memorial service will be at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 23, 2016 at Parkway Christian Center. Private inurnment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.
