Jerry Wayne Hakes, age 85, of Grants Pass, Oregon, died May 5th, 2020 at home.
Jerry was born January 20, 1935 to Ruth Roller Hakes and Raymond Howard Hakes in Waynesboro Virginia. At the end of World War II, his family moved to San Francisco, CA, where he attended Mission High School.
Jerry joined the U.S. Air Force in 1952. In 1953 he married Zoe Ann Fox and they had a son Donald Robert and a daughter Dorrie Diane.
Jerry’s second marriage was to Sharon June Seger on May 7, 1963. She accompanied him to military assignments in the U. S., Spain, Libya, and England.
After retirement from the Air Force in 1974, as First Sergeant, Jerry worked for the Department of Transportation as a Bridge Repairmen. Through moves and promotions, he retired from ODOT in 1997 as a Regional Safety Manager.
Jerry and Sherry lived in the country near the town of Sisters Oregon for 25 Years and
moved to Countryside Village, a Retirement Center in Grants Pass after they both had some health issues.
On June 3, 2016, Sherry lost her battle with cancer. They had been married for Fifty-Three Happy lovely years.
Jerry is survived by his son, Donald Hakes, daughter, Dorrie Baker, brother Glen Hakes, 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
A family memorial service is planned with a tree planting ceremony in late summer/early fall.
