Jerry Robert Swanson, age 74, of Rogue River, died Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at his home .
A memorial service will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 15, 2014 at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the Jackson and/or Josephine County Humane Societies.
Jerry was born January 22, 1940 in Quincy, Illinois. From 1958 to 1959 he attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois. From 1961 to 1963 he received an Associate Degree from Oregon Technical Institute in Klamath Falls, Oregon. He was a licensed professional land surveyor in Oregon, California and Alaska. He owned and operated a land surveying business and later a real estate business in Brookings, Oregon. Jerry had been the Jackson County Deputy County Surveyor. He worked for the United States Army Corps of Engineers, Alaska District from 1985 to 2004 as a field survey party chief and most recently as an Emergency Management Specialist. Jerry had been a resident of Rogue River since retiring in June 2004.
He was a past member of the Brookings Elks Lodge, Brookings Rotary Club and the Rogue Valley Chapter of the Professional Land Surveyors of Oregon.
His interests included collecting old and new firearms, antiques and anything rusty. Jerry holds a current Extra Class Amateur Ham Radio License was a licensed single-engine pilot..
Survivors include his sons, Brian of Poulsbo, Washington and Bruce of Merlin, Oregon; a grandson, Zyon; twin granddaughters, Darion and Sierra both of Merlin, Oregon and granddaughter, Savannah of Poulsbo, Washington; and a brother, David of Junction City, Oregon.
Jerry was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Judith in 2002; his mother, Helen in 2003; his father, Russell “Larry” in 1988 and an infant son, Craig in 1964.
