Jean Malone

Jean Malone, age 86, a long-time resident of Grants Pass, passed away Friday, March 21, 2008 in Medford.

A graveside service will be at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Grants Pass. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Jean was born June 15, 1921 in Roseburg, Oregon to Ed & Ruth Walter Shanks. She was a fifth-generation southern Oregonian, descended from wagon train settlers of the 1850s. She spent most of her childhood in Leland and Grants Pass, graduating from Grants Pass High School in 1939. In 1941 she met and married Edward A. Malone, and they were to share fifty-four years together before his death in 1996. She was a devoted wife and mother. Jean was active in the Grants Pass community from the time of her marriage until she and her husband moved to Medford in 1981 after his retirement.

She was a member of Rogue Valley Genealogical Society, Josephine County Historical Society, and Medford Senior Center.

In later years, she enjoyed needlework, crafts, and genealogy.

Survivors include two daughters, Alanna Malone of Sedona, Arizona and Kerry Malone of Phoenix, Oregon; a nephew, Ronald Darneille and a niece, Lanette Thomas both of Roseburg.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her infant son, Allan Craig in 1946 and her sister, Beverly Shanks Darneille in 1974.
