Jean Hersey, age 77, of Grants Pass, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with lung disease on Friday, March 15, 2013.
Please join the family for a graveside service at 1:00p.m., Friday, March 22, 2013 at Hawthorne Memorial Gardens, followed by a gathering of family and friends at The Hamilton House, 900 SE 8th Street, Grants Pass, Oregon. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors coordinate funeral arrangements.
Born Barbara Jean Stout on December 12, 1938 in Vera, Oklahoma to Shirley and Millie (McMillian) Stout.
In her early 20s she moved to San Diego, California where she enjoyed many years with a career as a Finance and Insurance Agent for an automobile dealership. Being the first woman of San Diego County to achieve that position.
Married to the love of her life Jerry Hersey, with their two children they relocated to Grants Pass in 1973. There she traded in her fancy clothes and suburban lifestyle for country living, gardening and raising her children. During her 40 years in Grants Pass, she worked for Bartle McKee, Allstate Real Estate and Southern Oregon Health. When Southern Oregon health closed, she went back to school to study Medical Transcription and became a licensed Realtor.
She enjoyed her family, flowers, traveling, entertaining, fine dining and beautiful clothes.
She was proceeded in death by her husband Jerry and is survived by her son Trent Hersey of Palm Desert, CA daughter Shirley Blankenburg (Marc) of Seattle,WA, grandchildren Justin Blankenburg, Derek Blankenburg, sister Wanda (Ken) Thompson, brother LeeRay (DeeAnn) Stout her niece and nephews.
She will be remembered as a wonderful mother, friend, original Lady, strikingly beautiful, independent, unpredictable woman who loved life and it’s magical journey.
