Jean C. Beaman

He was preceded in death by his wife, Anne Beaman in 2009 and a son, Jon Beaman in 1958. Jean C. Beaman, age 82, of Grants Pass, died Thursday, September 16, 2010 at Three Rivers Community Hospital.

A memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 16, 2010 at Parkway Christian Center with Pastor Dennis Webber officiating. Private interment was held at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Remembrances may be made to Habitat for Humanity (where Jean previously served on the Board of Directors).

Jean was born July 31, 1928 in Parkers Prairie, Minnesota where he grew up and attended school. For two years he attended Northwestern Bible College in Minneapolis, Minnesota. On August 14, 1951 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and was stationed at Camp Pendleton in San Diego as a chaplain’s assistant. On October 10, 1953 in Los Angeles, he married Anne L. McPherson. After his military service he started his career at JPL Lab in Pasadena and was part of the tech team for the first Apollo Mission (Apollo VIII) to photograph the surface of the moon. After his retirement in 1992, he moved to Grants Pass. While in Grants Pass he worked for the Grants Pass Post Office for several years and delivered flowers for a local florist which was his favorite job.

Jean joined Parkway Christian Center in 1992 where he was active as a care group leader. He was also a member of the senior community group, RASCAL, where he taught photoshop. He was “volunteer of the year” at Royale Gardens and volunteered at Parkside Elementary School as a reading buddy.

His favorite hobby was restoring vintage cars – especially Volkswagen Beetles.

Survivors include four daughters, Rene Schmieder of Grants Pass, Jeanette Dreyer of Tustin, California, Nanette Farley of San Marino, California, MaryAnn Doherty of Riverside, California, and a son, Andrew Beaman of Tokyo, Japan; five brothers, Harvey Beaman of Duarte, California, Rev. Dale Beaman of Rockford, Illinois, Darrel Beaman of Temple City, California, Jerry Beaman of Apple Valley, California, and Paul Beaman of Seal Beach, California; and five granddaughters.
