Janet Dorr Wood, age 91, of Grants Pass, died Saturday, March 21, 2009 at her home.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, March 26, 2009 at River Valley Community Church with Pastor Dar Wolber officiating. Hull and Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Janet was born on May 29, 1917 in San Francisco to Louis Dorr and Golda Charmak Dorr. She attended school in Long Beach, California and graduated from Wilson High School in 1935. Two years later, she graduated from Long Beach City College with an associate’s degree. She married David Wood on March 11, 1939, he died in 2002. For five years she worked for the Los Angeles County Christian Jail Workers. Wood was involved in parent-teacher associations, both at the school district and state level in California. She also was a leader for Girl Scouts and her church’s youth group.
From 1972 to 1987, she and her husband did consulting work for different foreign mission groups traveling internationally for Christian Service Fellowship. They moved to the Grants Pass area in 1987 and got involved with the River Valley Community Church.
In addition to volunteering, Wood’s hobbies included acrobatic dancing, tennis and golf.
Survivors include a son, David Wood of Livonia, Mich.; a daughter, Anne Plater of Grants Pass; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
