James "Jim" Clyde Broeffle

July 25, 1928 — November 4, 2020

James “Jim” Clyde Broeffle, was born to Clyde Broeffle and Evangeline (Slocomb) Broeffle on July 25, 1928 in Modesto, California. Jim was raised in Hughson, California and graduated from Hughson High School in 1946; and attended Modesto Junior College. Jim lived in both Merced and Tulare, California where he managed theatres before being drafted.
After serving in the US Army Signal Corps in Korea during 1951 and 1952, he worked on his parents’ ranch near Cave Junction. In 1954, Jim married Lillian (Appel) in Cave Junction. In 1962, the family moved to Grants Pass and Lillian passed away in November 2009.
Jim’s various careers included over 30 years in broadcasting, as News Director at KAGI Radio in Grants Pass; in television news; and UPI Wire Service. Other employment ranged from motion picture theatres to owning and operating various businesses. In his retirement years, Jim was a delivery driver for Grants Pass Pharmacy; Treatment Foster Parent for KAIROS, working with dozens of youth for seven years and was well-liked by the youth, two of whom remained in contact after his final retirement.
Jim served on the board of directors of Southern Oregon Goodwill, the Grants Pass Towne Center board, and had been a member of the Lions Club since 1956.
From the Pacific Coast to the Klamath Basin, Jim enjoyed the tall trees, the Rogue River, the history, beauty, and people of Southern Oregon. Jim never met a person he did not find interesting.
Survivors include sons Kenneth and Douglas; daughter Renae Munson; grandson Michael; granddaughters Paula and Alicia; great-granddaughters Layla and Arianna; and great-grandson Ivan.
Jim is preceded in death by his wife Lillian; parents Clyde and Evangeline; and his brother William.
