James B. Dubberly, age 75, of Merlin, died Thursday, June 16, 2011 at Highland House Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
A memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 23, 2011 at Grants Pass Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Milton Hayes officiating. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.
James was born April 11, 1936 in Elkhart, Kansas to Esther & Raymond Dubberly. He retired from Hill Air Force Base in Clearfield, Utah after serving 35 years in the United States Air Force. Eleven of those years were active duty at Lackland AFB in Texas, Dover AFB in Delaware, Thule AFB in Greenland, Offut AFB in Nebraska, Hill AFB in Utah and Taipei, Taiwan. For 24 years he was an industrial radiographer in civil service at Hill AFB. On June 29, 1958 in Riverton, Wyoming he married Glennis Willenbrecht, they later divorced. James attended Weber State University in Ogden, Utah receiving an associate’s degree in Police Science. On September 7, 1982 in Elko, Nevada he married LaVera “Debbie” Pikutark Reed. In 2004 he moved from Wimer to Merlin.
His memberships included Weber State University Alumni; Disabled American Veterans; Arbor Day Foundation; and AARP.
He volunteered with the Evans Valley Fire Department and Evans Valley Elementary.
His hobbies included repairing small appliances and small engines; buying and selling at yard sales and during his younger years he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved to stay busy and also loved his cat, Nermal and his dog, Cody.
In addition to his wife, LaVera “Debbie” Dubberly of Merlin, Oregon; survivors include a daughter, Patti Jo Montgomery and husband Stuart of West Haven, Utah; a son, James A. Dubberly and wife Tammi of Portland, Oregon; five stepchildren, Tracey Dunkley of Roy, Utah, Denise Ambrosini of Grants Pass, Oregon, Crystal Williamson of Tucson, Arizona, Leaha Navarro of Ogden, Utah, and Kyle Reed of Salt Lake City, Utah; two brothers, Dave Dubberly of Westminster, Colorado and Raymond Dubberly of Grand Junction, Colorado; 20 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Charlotte Singleton, a great-grandson; and a stepson, Stacey Reed III of Milwaukie, Oregon.
