James Anthony "Tony" Davis

James Anthony “Tony” Davis, age 83, of Grants Pass, died November 10, 2023 at Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center.

Tony was born June 18, 1940 in Los Angeles, California to Cluff & Ilene (Risick) Davis. He grew up in Southern California and attended Santa Fe High School, and Long Beach City College, and La Salle University Law School in Pennsylvania for two years.  On August 2, 1969 in Los Angeles, he married Gloria Aracely “Chely” Medrano and together they had three children. Tony lived in Guatemala for over six years and was bilingual and for 35 years worked in the automobile industry. In 1979 he moved from Arrowhead, California to Grants Pass.

Tony attended Applegate Christian Fellowship and Edgewater Christian Fellowship.

He spent the entirety of his life mentoring, nurturing, and guiding those around him; all who knew him sought his council. He was a father to the fatherless, shelter to the homeless, and safe harbor in a storm for all who asked.

His hobbies included travel, gardening, and world history. He volunteered his time as a football and baseball coach. Far more than a hobby, he preferred the company of his precious wife.

Tony was preceded in death by parents Cluff W. Davis and Ilene M. King; and his brother Robert C. Davis.

He is survived by children James Lauren Davis, Timari Ilene Davis, and Rachel Claudia “Davis” Goodwin; sisters Kathleen D. Acomb and Jeanette King; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren who were jewels in his crown. He will be greatly missed.

A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m., November 18, 2023 at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors. Interment to follow at Hawthorne Memorial Gardens.
