Jack K. Jantzer, Longtime Logger, age 73, of Grants Pass, died Sunday February 3, 2008, at his home surrounded by loving family and friends.
A visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 6, 2008 at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors
A funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 6, 2008 at the Josephine County Fairgrounds Pavilion with Pastor Russ Gibson officiating. Mausoleum entombment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, contributions may be made in the memory of Jack K. Jantzer to the Hi Lo Club building Fund at P. O. Box 1595 Grants Pass OR 97528.
He was born May 22, 1934, in Grants Pass to William and Berniece Jantzer. He was raised in the Azalea and Starvout Creek areas in southern Oregon in a Logging and Mill camp. He attended elementary school in Glendale, Oregon. At age 13 his family moved to Grants Pass. He graduated from Grants Pass High School in 1952. On July 3, 1952 in Grants Pass, he married Darla D. Wilson who survives.
He was an Owner/Operator, with various family members of Jantzer Logging, Jantzer and Son’s Logging, Jantzer Enterprises, Northridge Construction and Development and Northridge Homes. He was a long time member of Alcoholics Anonymous and the Hi Lo Club with 44 years of Sobriety. He was an AA sponsor to many people throughout the years. He was instrumental in starting the Rogue Roundup, held annually each year in Grants Pass since 1974, a weekend convention for friends of Bill Wilson to share their experience, strength and hope.
He was an avid sports fan of all sports especially Grants Pass Caveman Football and Oregon Duck Football. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman and was a member of Safari Club International. He served on several different boards of Directors over the years, some including the Hi Lo Club, Rogue Roundup, Rogue Recovery House, and Josephine County Counsel on Alcoholism. He enjoyed traveling with different family members and spending time with his family especially times spent at his vacation home in Maui, Hawaii.
In addition to his wife, survivors include son, Gary W. Jantzer of Grants Pass and daughter, Cynthia Grondahl of Grants Pass; brother, Bill Jantzer of Grants Pass; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Jantzer in 1979; daughter Jari K. Adams in 1993; and his mother, Berniece Jantzer in 1996.
