Jack D. Russell, age 86, of Grants Pass, died Sunday, February 22, 2009 at his home.
A memorial service will be at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, March 5, 2009 at Parkway Christian Center (Sanctuary) with Pastor Ron Marsh officiating. Private interment will be at Hawthorne Memorial Gardens. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Parkway Benevolence Fund, 229 NE Beacon Drive, Grants Pass, Oregon 97526 or a charity of your choice.
Jack was born February 1, 1923 in Flasher, North Dakota to Marian & Sophia (Kollman) Russell. He graduated in 1940 from high school in Manhattan, Montana. During World War II he served in the United States Army where he was an MP escorting enemy POWs to prison camps. On March 16, 1944 in Olympia, Washington he married Clarabell “Corey” Dean. He was an entrepreneur all his life. He worked in the produce department in a market and as a floor covering salesman. In 1953, he moved from Olympia to Grants Pass. In Grants Pass, he owned and operated the Artistic Drapery Shop until his retirement in 1995. However, he continued to stay in contact with his clients and serviced their drapery needs for many years.
Jack was a member of Parkway Christian Center where he was a member of Primetimer, a greeter, and usher. He was also a bagpiper in the Ashland Kiltie Band. He enjoyed ice-skating and rollerblading and watching his kids and grand kids grow up.
In addition to his wife, Clarabell “Corey” Russell of Grants Pass; he is survived by three sons, Dave D. Russell, Phillip C. Russell and Gary E. Russell all of Grants Pass; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his five brothers, an infant son, Joseph Timothy Russell in 1961 and a daughter, Barbara (Russell) Kenyon in 1988.
