Jack Allan Holt, age 85, died Monday, August 29, 2011 at his home.
A memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 24, 2011 at The United Centers for Spiritual Living, 466 SW I Street, Grants Pass. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.
Remembrances may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Lung Association.
Jack was born May 12, 1926 in Long Beach, California. He served two years in the Army Field Artillery. He graduated from the University of California at Berkeley with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering and subsequently became a Licensed Professional Engineer. In 1973 in Belmont, California he married Katie Ellen Chilcott. Jack worked for Burke Concrete Accessories for 25 years as the Chief Engineer and retired from the State of California Water Resource Board in 1985. In 1989 he moved from Meadow Vista, California to Rogue River, Oregon.
Jack was a member of the Masonic Order for 50 years; the Good Sam R.V. Club; and was a founding and life member of RASCAL Computer Club serving as the first president. He volunteered for Project Re-Start refurbishing computers for those in need of a computer; for children in the SMART program; for hospice; as a bailiff for the Josephine County Courts; and as a tax preparer for RSVP.
Jack’s favorite thing to do was working in his garden and was well on his way to becoming a certified Master Gardener. His other interests included genealogy, fishing, woodworking, camping, piano, and singing.
Survivors include his wife, Katie Ellen Holt of Rogue River, Oregon; a stepson, Jeff Chilcott and wife Susan of Jakarta, Indonesia; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Jennifer Pedersen; a brother, Irvin E. Holt Jr; his mother, Frances Amelia Emmerson; and his father, Irvin Holt.
