Hubert O. "Skip" Brecount

Hubert O. “Skip” Brecount, age 84, passed away on February 14, 2013 at his home in Grants Pass after a long illness.

Private services will be held at a later date. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

He was born on August 30, 1928 in San Diego, California to Hubert and Blanche Brecount. He had two brothers, W.H. Brecount and Theron Brecount. He was married 17 years to Shirley Larson. On December 31, 1969 he married Audria Jones, they were married for 42 years, Audria passed away May 2, 2010.

Skip owned and operated Brecount Bro. Logging, along with his brother Bill before he retired. They logged in Southern Oregon for 45 years. Skip loved the woods and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed fishing in Alaska where he had his boat docked. He enjoyed all outdoor sports as well as watching the Redskins and the San Francisco Giants teams play. He was on several bowling leagues and he and Audria would travel to tournaments. He golfed and liked to go to his claim and pan gold. As a young man he was on the G.P. Merchants Baseball team. He was also a pilot. While in school he was an outstanding track hurdler and received a full scholarship to U of O.

He was a Master Sergeant in the United States Army and on May 5th, in Korea, he was honored by an award of the Bronze Star for Meritorious service, and was decorated for outstanding performance of duty with C Company of the Signal Corps Fourth Battalion by his company commander Lt. Col. Gordon D. Gray.

Skip was a kind man; he loved working in the woods and enjoyed his friends and family. He was a good example and hard worker.

Survivors include a daughter, Lyn McAllister; a stepdaughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Robert Seig of Grants Pass; a stepson, Aaron Jones of Bend, Oregon; 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and his wife Audria.

The family would like to thank the caregivers from Advantage home care. Darleen, who was with our family for seven years and saw us through the loss of both Audria and Skip, we love her and she added so much to our lives as well as mom and dad’s. Also, to Kathy, Peggy, Tere, Caryn and LuWana who together loved and watched over our parents with such grace and tenderness, always allowing them their dignity, working as a team and providing the care that we all needed. And to Jack, his beloved friend for many years, he cared for Skip so much. Thank you Hospice, they made the transition for our family easier to bear.
