Howard Carl Bosch
September 1, 1947 – December 28, 2019
Howard Carl Bosch, age 72 of Grants Pass, Oregon went to be with the Lord on Saturday evening, December 28, 2019 at Asante Three Rivers Medical Center. He was born in Santa Rosa California to Harry & Elberta Bosch, the second of four sons. In 1957 the Bosch family moved to Oregon and established a homestead in Cave Junction. Howard graduated from Illinois Valley High School in 1966.
After graduating he enlisted in the United States Navy and served as a Navy hospital corpsman (HM2). He served in Vietnam from December 1967 to December 1968. For 6 months he was attached to Charlie Company 1st battalion, 4th regiment, 3rd Marine division in northern I Corps. He received a purple heart for wounds inflicted during combat at Hill 672, Landing Zone Loon. After that he served at Forward Battalion Aid Station Vandergrift Combat Base, Vietnam.
After separating from the Navy in June 1969, Howard married Kay Walton and they had one child, Katy. They lived a short while in Grants Pass, then a few years in Pendleton, then Burns, Oregon. They divorced in 1978.
Howard worked for the State of Oregon Department of Transportation as a bridge inspector until he retired. He lived in Cave Junction until 2005, when he moved to Grants Pass, his final place of residence. His last months were at Royale Gardens Health & Rehabilitation Center. He was profoundly grateful to the staff that cared for him and enjoyed a peaceful, quiet life there.
Howard was a sharp-witted man who loved to pull a leg. He was an avid gunsmith, a savvy survivalist, and a patriot. He was generous and gave to many causes, especially to charities for veterans. He was a gentle giant, and a humble, God-fearing man. Truly, to know him was to love him.
Howard is survived by his daughter, grandchildren, sisters-in law, and a large extended family and so many loved ones. He was preceded in death by his parents Harry Sr. & Elberta Bosch; his brothers Danny (Dan), Michael (Mike) and Harry Jr. (Sonny) Bosch.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Howard Bosch to the Wounded Warrior Project or other charities serving veterans would be appreciated.
